Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, tasteless and toxic gas produced as a by-product of combustion. Any fuel burning appliance, vehicle, tool or other device has the potential to produce dangerous levels of carbon monoxide gas. Examples of carbon monoxide producing devices commonly in use around the home include:

  • Fuel fired furnaces (non-electric)
  • Gas water heaters
  • Fireplaces and woodstoves
  • Gas stoves
  • Gas dryers
  • Charcoal grills
  • Lawnmowers, snowblowers and other yard equipment
  • Automobiles

Macurco CM-21A Carbon Monoxide Detector and Fan Controller (CM21A)

Description

CM-21A CO detector and fan controller, individual or use with control systems. Mounts in 4x4 box, meets OSHA standards, fan and alarm relays, 12-24 VAC or VDC operation.

General Information
The CM-21A is a low voltage, dual relay Carbon Monoxide (CO) detector and controller. It uses an all electronic system to measure the concentration of CO and calculates when the relays should be actuated. The unit also has the ability to be calibrated in the field. See the CM-21A data sheet for relay actuation levels, relay ratings, and more technical information.

Location
The unit on average can cover about 5000 sq. ft. The coverage depends on air movement in the room or facility. Extra detectors may be needed near any areas where people work or the air is stagnant. Normally, the unit mounts 5 feet above the floor, in a central area where air movement is generally good. See the CM-21A data sheet for more information on location.

Features

  • CM-21A is very specific to carbon monoxide (CO), avoids nuisance alarms.
  • CM-21A provides CO detection and automatic exhaust fan control for automotive maintenance facilities, enclosed parking garages, warehouses with forklifts, etc.
  • CM-21A meets the requirements of the Uniform Building Code for enclosed garages.
  • CM-21A Meets or exceeds UL 2034 standard and OSHA standards for CO exposure.
  • Fan relay activates at 35 ppm of CO averaged over 5 minutes. 25 ppm is selectable.
  • Alarm relay activates at 100 ppm of CO after 30 minutes or 200 ppm after 10 minutes.
  • 5 amp SPDT fan relay controls starters of exhaust fans.
  • 1/2 amp N.O. alarm relay connects to warning devices or control panels.
  • CM-21A mounts on a standard 4x4 electrical box and becomes cover for the box.
  • Supervised system: any internal detector problem will cause the fan relay to activate.
  • Optional calibration kit is available. One screw allows access for calibration.
